Dr. Robert A. "Bob" Barcaskey met his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 after succumbing to complications due to a stroke he suffered in July 2010. He was born December 14, 1932 in Coraopolis, PA to Frank and Genevieve (Cooper) Barcaskey. He was the third generation of his family to live in the Coraopolis area and worked in the Spring Works before attending Penn State. After one year, he served in the Army during the Korean War Era. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California and after a summer working in Alaska, returned with his bride, Katherine Thiessen of Vancouver, Canada. He then enrolled in Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1961. Bob's lifelong interest in fitness and nutrition from his years as a bodybuilder (runner up Mr. Pittsburgh in the early 1960s) led him to the study of chiropractic at Palmer. He returned to the Pittsburgh area to open offices in Mars, Ambridge, Allison Park and Gibsonia where he treated many patients through five decades. Dr. Bob used many pioneering techniques in the field of alternative health and brought many new non-medication treatments to his patients including supplement nutrition, kinesiology, homeopathy, light therapy and acupuncture. His frontier spirit and passion for healing was an example to all through his own life and his ability to avoid traditional medical care until July of 2010. In his later years he made annual trips to visit his children and grandchildren in California, Arizona and Minnesota and regular visits to his son and daughter-in-law in the North Hills. Bob is survived by his four children, Kathy Ann Thomson (Mark), Eric (Laurie), Bob (Laurie) and Vicki and six grandchildren, Katie Barcaskey, John Thomson, Peter Thomson, Elizabeth Thomson, Erin Barcaskey and Benjamin Barcaskey. His is predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Frank, Dorothy and Jean. Family and Friends will be received at H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Twp., 412-364-4444 on Friday, January 21 from 2-5 p.m., with words of memorial at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Bonaventure Parish, 2001 Mt.
