Richard "Dick" P. Schmitt

Richard “Dick” P. Schmitt, 91, passed away on July 4, 2023 in Sewickley. He was born to the late Frank and Mary Schmitt on December 9, 1931 in Pittsburgh. Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Schmitt; his son, Richard P. Schmitt, Jr.; and his brothers, Frank and Bob Schmitt.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Dick graduated from Oliver High School. Immediately after graduation, Dick began a 40-year career with Verizon as a building mechanic. Dick’s job was placed on hold when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 to serve his country in the Korean War. When Dick returned, he married the love of his life, Anne. Together they built a life in Russell, PA and raised four children, eventually moving back to Pittsburgh in 1986. Dick will be remembered as a hardworking, loving father and pap-pap who was happiest when spending time with his family.

Dick is survived by his children, Joseph Schmitt (Ying), Kathleen Schmitt, and Mary Maniet (Bob); his grandchildren, Benjamin and Rachel Maniet, and Jessica and Ericka Schmitt.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10am at St. Athanasius Church, 7 Chalfonte Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15229. Private interment to take place at a later date.
