Nancy Jane Simon a lifetime resident of the Allegheny County area and a resident of Ben Avon Heights since 1936 passed away peacefully on September 11, 2015. She attended the College of Wooster, received her bachelors degree from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and a Masters Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She had a duel career, one in the field of special Education and the other at Gulf Oil Corporation where she retired as Manager of Medical Administration. She was a former member of the Twentieth Century Club, and the Junior League of Pittsburgh. She served on the Council of the Borough of Ben Avon Heights. She was an active member of her church where she taught Sunday school, served as an elder and was on the Board of Deacons and served on many of the various church committees.
Her life was shaped by the years near the rivers and hills of southwestern Pennsylvania and the lake country of Northern Michigan where she vacationed for over seventy years with her family on lake Charlevoix. In her later years she received pleasure sharing time with family and friends. Nancy’s life was centered on her faith, giving to others and always looking for the best in people. She had a special place in her heart for the many dogs she cared for and loved throughout the years.
She is survived by her brother, William P. Simon and his wife, Lois and her sister, Jean Hollister and her husband, William, and nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Marilyn Simon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon 7501 Church Ave Pittsburgh 15202 and Animal Friends 562 Camp Horne Rd, Pittsburgh 15237.
