It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of our beloved father, Joseph L. Bender of Allison Park, on July 9, 2024 at the age of 101. He was a devoted husband for over 50 years to his late wife, Francis Celin Bender. He leaves behind his loving children; Joyce (Sean) Rice, Sherrie Taylor, Joe (Pam) Bender and Carol (Liam) Mason. Grandfather of Stuart and Cortney Rice, Andy and Bobby Taylor, Lindsey McKelvy, and Garnet, Ian and Jared Mason. Great-Grandfather of Audrey Taylor and Benjamin McKelvy. Preceded in death by his parents, Marie Englert Bender and Raymond C. Bender, and Brothers Raymond C. Bender Jr. and William Bender.
He proudly served his country in World War II as a Bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress, Eighth Air Force, based in England. He graduated from Robert Morris School of Business and Cades CPA School in 1949. He was a Certified Public Accountant, in practice for over 60 years, and was a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. Our dad was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one to his credit! His passion for the game was evident as he could recount each stroke of a golf game he played years ago as if it was yesterday! He was a charter member of Wildwood Golf Club where he enjoyed numerous years of incredible friendships over rounds of golf, dinners and dances.
We are blessed with so many cherished memories of dad’s visits to see his family in New York, Florida, Canada and here at home. Everywhere our dad went he left a lasting impression with his kindness, generosity, strong faith, quick wit and joy for life. He was an inspiration to us all and a shining example of resilience, hard work, determination and the embodiment of a life well-lived. He will be greatly missed.
