A life-long Pittsburgher, Jack passed away following a series of illnesses. Son of the late John C. and Mary Teresa Shockey Miller, he is survived by Donna (Kim), his beloved wife since 1975, and their children John C. Miller III (Rachel), Dr. Melody Caldwell (Kevin) and Scott Arthur Miller (Lexi). He was “pap” to Emily and Xander Caldwell and Isaac, Autumn and Maddox Miller. He remained close to his sister Mary Chris, her husband Blaise Bianco and their children Paul, and Kate along with those on the Brennan side of the family.
He cherished a life-long friendship with Dr. Joe Chalovich and his wife Patty and was grateful for friendships with grade-school buddies Bob Jessop, Mark Srsic, Bernie Colbert, Patty Aguglia Liebman, Don Feitl and others, and brothers-in-law Blaise Bianco and Art and Bob Kim.
For nearly a half century, Jack served as a development officer for area non-profits, helping to raise millions of dollars for their charitable causes. In 2008, he formed his own development firm, Miller Consulting. The most important things in Jack’s life, however, were his Catholic Faith, family, and friends. From 2011-2019 he served as a deacon at St. Teresa of Avila Parish in the North Hills until a bout with cancer contributed to his retirement. He was especially passionate about defending unborn children and proud that he was able to use his fund-raising knowledge to contribute more than a million dollars to faith-based charities during his lifetime.
He also took pride in his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and was appreciative of his St. Boniface Grade School friends with whom he kept in touch over his life, even coordinating several reunions. He was grateful for the friendship and support of his brothers in the diaconate, current and past parishioners, the Knights of Columbus, his spiritual director the Rev. Bob Norton, and his traveling companion Deacon Dave Witter,
