John "Jack" B. Mallon

John B. Mallon, Sr., age 96, of McCandless Township, passed away on October 6, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine (Tink) Hoeveler Mallon, and loving father of John B Jr (Pamela) Mallon, Kevin (Krista) Mallon, and Kerry (James) Cassidy. John had 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Born in Clearfield, PA, John grew up in Coraopolis and Bellevue, PA. He joined the Army Air Corps the day after Pearl Harbor, and served four years in the Pacific Arena. Married June 14, 1947, he and his bride spent their entire married life in McCandless Township.

John was committed to his family and his community. He was the CEO of Suburban General Hospital from 1952 until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member in a variety of organizations, (often the Chairman or President) including the Suburban Health Foundation, Hospital Council of Western PA, Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, Alpha Health Network, Cancer Support Network, North Borough Lions Club, North Boroughs YMCA, Pennwood Savings and Loan, and the Midland Colt Retiree Foundation.

Always ready with a story, a poem or a song, John had a quick wit and ready smile. We are compiling memories to be included in a memorial book. Please bring yours to the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Inc., 1014 California Ave, Avalon on Friday, November 17, where friends will be received from 4 to 8pm. A memorial service will then be held on Saturday at 10:30am in the funeral home.
