K. Robert "Bob" Gates, age 58, of Ross Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday April 20, 2018 at home after a 2 ½ year battle with lung cancer. Beloved husband of Christine (Morgan) from Cambridge England, married 35 years; loving father to Lauren Hogue (Joe), Clare Gates (Daniel Bozek), Matthew Gates (Emily Johns), Teresa Gates; also survived by his mother Elizabeth (Ortseifer) Gates-Murphy (Edward Murphy); sisters, Patricia Ulanet (Jeffrey Ulanet), Kathy Gates (Jim Gilmore). Bob was a 1977 graduate of Shaler High School, 1982 graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland with a degree in biomedical engineering, and in 1988 he obtained a Master’s Degree in information science from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Sebastian Parish, worked for Allegheny General Hospital from 1982 to 1996, for UPMC in Oakland and most recently for NetApp in Cranberry. Aside from being a software engineer, Bob loved camping, fishing, and his family. Friends will be received in the H. P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp. (412-364-4444) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Monday. Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10am at St. Sebastian Parish.
