Betty Jane Sherwood

Betty Jane Sherwood will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her sincere happiness and kindness. She was always an optimist. Betty had a zest for life, and a smile that engaged everyone. She enjoyed a good crossword puzzle, history, literature and helping others.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52+ years, Charles L. Sherwood. He was a pilot, a Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, and the love of her life. Charles was stationed in Florida during the first year of their marriage, and it was a memorable time. They shared a beautiful life together filled with mutual admiration and daily acts of kindness.

During World War II Betty attended Keystone Business College and later worked at various corporations as an Executive Assistant. She maintained strong life-long relationships with family members, childhood friends and Golf Drive neighbors.

Betty said she ‘lived a long and happy life’ and she encouraged everyone to ‘get out there and make lots of good memories so that you will have them to remember in your later years.’

Betty was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Gibson Cameron and father Charles Gibson, sisters Helen Stephenson and Virginia Hogue, and brother George Gibson. She had two children, Jay Sherwood (Linda) and Robbin DeBiasio (Richard). She sincerely loved her three grandchildren, C. Logan Sherwood (Jay/Hyun Jong), J. Evan Sherwood, and Nina DeBiasio. Her nieces and nephews were an integral part of her close circle of family, joy, and support.

As per Betty’s request, there will be no public service.

The family wishes to send their appreciation to the UPMC Family Hospice for their care and compassion. A very special thank you to Betty’s hospice aid Lorraine from her ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ to nurse Kimberley, a violinist who traveled from Erie, PA to care for her, to nurse Maria who guided us through this process, and to nurse Carrie who stepped in when she was needed. Thank you all for being a bright part of Betty’s life.
