Bernard Keith Stump, Sr., 86 of Pineville passed away July 27 at the Bowers House in Beckley. Born June 27, 1930, in Stumptown, WV, one of six children, he was the son of the late Alfred B. Stump, Sr. and Almedia E. Kerby Stump. Mr. Stump was a member of the Pineville United Methodist Church where he enjoyed going to church and serving on several boards in the church. He was a former member of the Pineville Lions Club, Pineville Jaycees, and a member of the Genealogy Society. Mr. Stump worked in General, Primary and Municipal elections since 1950, missing very few. He was a former member of the Castle Rock Twirlers Square Dancing Club and traveled to numerous cities performing. Bernard was employed at Shufflebargers running dozer and heavy equipment, Wyoming Willis Garage, Wyoming County Board of Education, as a bus driver and a mechanic in the maintenance department, Town Gas and Pineville Land Company and retired from Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation in 1989. He enjoyed raising gardens, mowing grass, car races, WV ballgames and working on lawn mowers and weed eaters and going for coffee every morning at Tudors with his coffee buddies. He was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends in need. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene Privett Stump, and three brothers, Kenneth, Carl and Harold. He is survived by son, Pete (Gennie), daughter, Suzie (Kenny), three grandsons, Chad Vanhoy (Edna), all of Pineville; Dustin Stump of Maysal, Travis Stump (Jenny) of Beckley; two granddaughters, Melissa Stump of Dublin, VA and Lori Stump of Pineville; for great-grandsons, Hunter and Lucas Vanhoy, and Riley and Landon Stump of Beckley; a brother, Al Stump (Judy) of Parkersburg, WV and a sister, Joan Stump of Grantsville, WV and very special neighbors, Jody and Kim Cook and a host of friends and neighbors. A celebration of Bernard’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 30 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Michael Knotts and Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of the service. Special thanks to nurses and staff of Hospice of Southern WV. Pallbearers will be Chad, Hunter, and Lucas Vanhoy, Dustin, Travis and Al Stump, and Garland, George and Michael Privett. Honorary pallbearers will be Riley and Landon Stump.
