Edith Rita (Cavalier) Blanchard

Edith Rita Cavalier Blanchard, born August 2, 1928, and a lifelong resident of Pierre Part, LA was carried home to God by the angels on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was 95, a loving wife of 63 years, and a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. "Deet" was a compassionate woman and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed "good times" with family and friends, camping, fishing, music and dancing, drinking ponies, playing cards, and pulling slots.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Martha LeBlanc (Greg); three sons, Davis Blanchard, Jessie "Nunie" Blanchard (Vickie), and Nelson Blanchard (Carolyn); nine grandchildren, Stacey Ricks (Gregory), Toby Ponville, Rhett Blanchard, Letty Landry (Jamie), Holly Gaudet (Brad), Tarva Blum (Walter), Leslie Hebert (Scott), David Graham (Carina), and Sheila Fitts (Marc); sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert “Meat” Blanchard; her parents John and Zelmire Cavalier; four sisters, Elma, Delta, Hazel, and Lannie; four brothers, Cleveland, Sidney, Herbert, and Lanson; and one daughter-in-law, Gail Blanchard.

Pallbearers will be Davis, Nunie, Nelson, and Rhett Blanchard; Toby Ponville; Lance and Luke Malter; and Brayden and Andrew Gaudet.

The family would like to thank Home Instead, Hope Hospice, and all the family and friends that helped care for her, especially her devoted daughter Martha and loving friend Karen Adams.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Ourso Funeral Home in Pierre Part, LA on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9 am to 12 pm. A mass of Christian burial will follow the visitation at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part, LA, followed by the interment at the church mausoleum. Father Al Davidson will be officiating.
