Born on November 23, 1950, in Birmingham, Michigan, he was the son of the late James Joseph and Ruthann McManaus Cappell. It is safe to say Jay lived a full life of adventure alongside his one true love Lynda. Together they fulfilled a vision we’d all set out to achieve. Full of vigor from a dirt track, to dune buggies, water sports and a bucking stock. There was not much left untouched in their life together. Jay is also a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. After their wilder and younger years, they sought out to settle down with their two beautiful girls Ashley Lynn Johnson and Karrah Cappell Morris. They settled down on a beautiful farm in Pickens. No better place than a homestead rich with history and fulfilling of their dreams, to a simpler life. They both loved their girls with all of their hearts. Their passion for life and family is one we could all come to admire. Jay was also a member of the South Carolina’s Cattlemen’s Association, Pickens Chapter and the Upstate Livestock Exchange.
Jay also leaves behind two grandsons, Cohen Edward Johnson and Fletcher James Morris; one brother, Bobby Cappell and one sister Linda Dewitt, all to cherish his memory. He was also predeceased by one sister, Wendy Foster and two brothers, Larry Cappell and James Cappell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 30, 2019, at 4 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Brian Scruggs officiating.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Crescent Hospice, 1370 Browning Rd., Suite 120, Columbia, SC 29210.
