Gertrude Elizabeth Hughes

Mrs. Hughes was born in Pickens County on May 12, 1925, to the late Earlie and Ollie Hudson Simmons. She retired from Swirl, Inc. and was a member of Bethany Church of God.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her two daughters: Catherine Gilstrap and Audrey Morris; a son-in-law: Carl Reece; a daughter-in-law: Cathy Hughes; her seven grandchildren: Jennifer G. O'Shields, Cindi G. Dennis, Robert Morris, Eugene Hughes (Emilie), Jason Morris (Rosanne), Samantha Langdale (Rick), and Jonathon Morris (Marissa); and her eleven great-grandchildren: Ryan O'Shields, Caroline O'Shields, Lauren Gross (Zack), Joseph Dennis, Sarah Dennis, Bryeton Morris (Caroline), Emma Morris, Luke Morris, Ellie Morris, Poppy Morris, and Eliza Langdale. She is also survived by one sister: Doris Childs; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband and her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by a daughter: Elaine Reece; a son: Samuel Hughes; four brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM on Saturday, prior to the service, at Dillard Funeral Home.

The family is at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Interim Hospice: 100 Verdae Blvd Suite 200, Greenville, SC 29607; or to a charity of one's choice.
