Mr. Hayes was born in Pickens County on August 8, 1933 to the late Rev. Earsy Millo and Florence Sweet Hayes. He retired from Alice Manufacturing Elljean Plant, and in his free time enjoyed camping, traveling, and living the farm life. Mr. Hayes was a man who could do anything he set his mind to and was known for building numerous houses for his family and friends, and he could always be found doing work around his house repairing anything that needed it. He was an active member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.
In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Mr. Hayes is survived by his three children: Rev. Richard T. Hayes (Amy) of Pickens, Susan H. Grant (Rick) of Pickens, and Reggie Hayes (Machelle) of Tega Cay, SC; his five grandchildren: Mary Beth Leon (Diego), Andrew Hayes (Kristen), Greta Hunter (Matt), Josh Grant (Heather), and Lesley Williams (Brad); and six great-grandchildren: Henry, Oliver, Zavier, Madison, Cade, and Blake. He is also survived by three siblings: Bobbie Turner, Marvin Hayes (Margaret), and Arthur Hayes (Brenda); and a sister-in-law: Dot Hayes of Easley.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by a twin brother: Cleo Hayes.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Saturday, prior to the graveside service, at Dillard Funeral Home.
