Yiu Kwin Wong, known to many as a well-regarded Chinese medicine doctor, and a source of strength and support in the Wong and Tang families, passed away at his residence in Arizona on April 22, 2023. He was 87 years old.
His death was first witnessed by his son, Stanley Wong, at 1:30 PM. The cause was most likely cardiac arrest. He passed away peacefully and quickly.
Dr. Wong was born to a wealthy family on October 26, 1935 in Kai Ping City, Guang Dong Province. He lived the early part of his life in Southern China before moving to California, then finally arriving in Arizona where he spent the majority of his later life. He has friends and family in both countries.
Having experienced childhood during World War II, Dr. Wong joined the military as medical staff during the Korean War, where the adolescent discovered his interest in curing ailments and helping others. He continued working in the medical field after the war and was hired as an on-site doctor at Humen High School, where he had met his first wife, Min Xian Li. Together they had two children, Tracy and Stanley.
Dr. Wong worked his way to become a doctor at Tai Ping Hospital. He practiced medicine for three decades and had built an outstanding reputation for himself in the community, saving hundreds of lives.
In June 1985, Dr. Wong immigrated to the United States with his family. After Min Xian Li passed away, he married Ming Ying Zuo on February 3, 2005.
Throughout his life, Dr. Wong consistently enjoyed spending time outside. He took part in activities such as basketball, fishing, taking walks, and gardening. In his later years, he had moved back to Arizona to live with Stanley, and was able to experience a beautiful lakefront view from the house and backyard. He liked picking the citrus fruits that grow so abundantly in the warm Arizona weather. During the morning of his death, he was picking a grapefruit, likely to consume later for breakfast. He was well taken care after he moved back to Arizona.
Mr. Wong is survived by his second wife Ming Ying Zuo in China, elder sister May Seow in California, and his son and daughter Stanley Wong and Tracy Tang, both of whom live in Arizona. Additionally, he is survived by three half-brothers and two half-sisters in China. His grandchildren are Jenny Tang, Julie Tang, and Jason Wong.
Yiu Kwin Wong will be fondly remembered a caring doctor, father and grandfather.
The memorial service will be at Phoenix Memorial Park on May 5, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The private family viewing will be from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
He is Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what he'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com for the Wong family.
