He was born to parents Dudley and Nancy Fiscus on December 26, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. The family was very close and often spent summers vacationing with extended family at Oscoda, Michigan on Lake Huron. Wayne was described as quiet, but resourceful. One summer he took an old surfboard and rigged it with mast, sail, and rudder turning it into an amazing sailboat.
Wayne graduated from Bentley High School, Class of 1969. He joined the Navy in June of 1970. Aboard the USS John F Kennedy (CV 67), he would start a life-long career as an electrician. He would go on to serve 6 years in the Navy. After his military service, he continued his career as an electrician and soon became a “jack of all trades”.
Wayne is survived by his children-son Raymond and his wife Imogen Fiscus, and daughter Nancy and her husband Nathan Ashby; as well as five grandchildren ages ranging from 14 to 3 years old. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Fiscus and longtime girlfriend, Patricia Hood. He was predeceased by both of his parents Dudley and Nancy Fiscus.
Wayne enjoyed staying active and was on several bowling leagues as an adult. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, taking annual hunting trips with friends. Almost paradoxically, animals flocked to him. There wasn’t an animal that didn’t fall in love with him right away. He was a patriot through and through, later joining the American Legion to connect with other Veterans. He was a regular patron at AZ Post 34 in Cave Creek, Arizona. He regularly gave of his time and talent to help others with the skills he learned working in construction his whole adult life. Even after his “retirement”, he continued to work as a labor of love.
Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will be held on February 3rd, 2023, at 11am. A Celebration of Life will follow at the American Legion, AZ Post 34.
