Timothy Edward Smith, 61, a long time resident of Tempe, Arizona, passed away December 4, 2014. Timothy was born March 17, 1953 in Cortland, New York to Charles and Margaret Smith. The family later moved to California. Tim grew up mostly in California, enjoying hiking and backpacking in high school. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Tim served in the Scotland Edinburgh Mission for the LDS church 1975 to 1977. Returning to Phoenix, where his parents had moved to go to ASU. He received a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and work in the telecommunication industry as Accountant, Controller and Financial Analysis. After working with his own children who have dyslexia, he wanted to help others. He got training to be a Dyslexia Specialist and tutored mostly children for 12 years.Tim enjoyed the outdoors, camping, spending time with his family, family history and computers. He served in many callings in the Petersen Park Ward. He is survived by his wife Evelyn and their five children Ben, Christie Carroll (David), Brian (Lessia), Patrick and Amanda as well as 4 grandchildren. Also living are his parents Chuck and Peggy, his sister Susan Barton (David) and his brother David. There will be a Visitation Thursday, December 11, 2014 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe, Arizona. The Funeral Service will be Friday, December 12, 2014 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Peterson Park Ward, Tempe, Arizona. Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who mourn his passing. Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe is entrusted with the arrangements.
