Ruby D. Jones

Our beloved Ruby D. Jones was born May 15,1927 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Doc Hall and AnnLice Rita Wiley. She was the youngest of five siblings. When she was five years old, she lost her mother tragically. At that time, during the Great Depression, there were no orphanages for black children. Fortunately, Ruby’s neighbors welcomed their home to she and her siblings. At one point, they were separated, however, by the grace of God, she always had a roof over her head, and never went hungry. When she was ten years old, her Aunt Teen sent Ruby’s brothers to find her so that she could be with her family.Ruby left home at the age of seventeen. She made her way to Cincinnati, Ohio. As a hard worker, she worked in laundries and had funny stories to tell about those jobs. In addition to doing laundries, Ruby did day work in several households. The families often considered her to be like family. Oh how the apple does not fall far from the tree. She loved children and always took excellent care of them. Ruby was a fabulous cook who gave herself a crash course in Kosher cooking so that she could qualify for jobs. The Lord directed her to a generous family in which she remained with them for several years. Many families and their children hated to see Ruby leave. When Aunt Teen became ill, Ruby left her home in Cincinnati, to take care of her for an extended period of time. Aunt Teen was 110 years old at the time of her death. In 1951, Ruby relocated to Michigan and worked for the Oak Park School District until she medically retired. She was industrious, hardworking and often worked two jobs. She obeyed the gospel at Joseph Campau (now Elmwood Park) Church of Christ in Detroit, Michigan under the preaching of Brother Orum L. Trone, Sr. She remained a faithful and dedicated Christian. She later married Ivan Price Jones and worked with him as he ministered the Lemay Street Church of Christ in Detroit, Mi. She and her husband relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 1978 where he served as minister to the Roeser Road Church of Christ for many years. Ruby was known for her honesty and objectivity. She would rather tell you the truth that hurts and then heals… than to tell you a lie that soothes and then kills. She is preceded in death by her husband Ivan Price Jones, siblings Jude Hall, Joseph Hall, James Hall, Ida Pearl Reece, and Aunt Carrie Belle. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughters Marilyn Hall and Wendy (Walter) Codd both of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Honorary daughter Patricia B.D of Peoria, AZ. Honorary Son, Henry Hunt of Phoenix, AZ. Nephew James Grant of Montgomery, Alabama; and Symelvertt Sonnye Henderson Jr of Mt. Clemens Michigan, Niece Michelle Perry of South Holland, Illinois; Granddaughters Tonia, Marla, and Andrea all of Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Henryet and Patrice Hunt of Phoenix, Arizona. Two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons all of Mt. Clemens, Michigan and a host of great nieces, great nephews, church family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
