Dr. Robert L (Rob) Jones, former Director of the MBA Program and Professor of Management at Grand Canyon University, died January 6, 2022. He founded the nation’s first bachelor degree program in Training and Development.
Rob retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Captain, serving in World War II as a communications officer in the Pacific, aboard several ships. His last assignment was on the USS Manila Bay, an escort aircraft carrier. He completed his 30 year service as a Group Commander of the Navy and CB forces in Arizona.
He worked 18 years for Arizona Public Service in development and human resources, finally reporting to the President before leaving to join Grand Canyon University. On sabbatical, he was a management consultant, continuing on a part time basis while teaching. Rob served on community advisory boards and in professional organizations, and was one time Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Madison Baptist Church in Phoenix.
Rob was preceeded in death by his parents, James Robert and Georgia (Clark) Jones, and the love of his life, Nita (Gamelgaard) Jones where they were married 55 years. In their early days together they worked on radio shows in Yuma and Phoenix before their daughter Stacey Kathleen was born. In his spare time he was an avid stamp collector and loved to read, and he loved dancing and was known to be the life of a party.
Rob is survived by Stacey Jones Rouse (Joseph A II), two grandsons he was extremely proud of, Joseph A Rouse III and Jeremy Robert Rouse (Stephanie), two great grandchildren, Tabitha Rouse and Joseph A Rouse IV, as well as his niece Wanda Gamelgaard Bonham (Pat Doyle) and Godson Justin Gamelgaard-Bonham (Ashley).
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 11:00 AM at Dayspring United Methodist Church, 1365 E Elliot Rd, Tempe, AZ 85284
