After a great Thanksgiving spent in his home with his immediate family, Paul Edward McCaw, age 65, slipped into a coma the next morning and shortly that day took his last breath. The pain and suffering from his battle with cancer (Squamous Cell Carcinoma; diagnosed in June 2017) had finally ended on November 23, 2018. On his final day with us, Paul expressed his love and gratitude for everyone and how happy he was to have us there.
Paul (aka: Pablo/Papa) was born in Tempe on June 1, 1953 to Tommy Allen McCaw and Rita Gray McCaw. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years (Ruth), his mother (Rita), his 3 children (Shaulan, Abrian, and Jaran), his 2 granddaughters (Jilayn and Sloan), his 5 siblings (Donna, Cathy, Kelly, Jeanine, and Scott) and numerous cousins like Georgia along with nieces and nephews.
Paul graduated from Tempe High in 1971, attended Arizona State University where he attained his BS in Electrical Engineering, then was hired on as a Manufacturing Engineer with Motorola/General Dynamics where he worked for 32 ½ years, retiring at the age of 60. It was at Motorola that he would meet the love of his life, Ruth Garcia. The two shared a beautiful and timeless love that would blossom into the wonderful home and talented family they created.
With a great love for music, plants (especially desert plant life) and of course Photography, Paul could rarely be seen without a camera in his hands. He knew how to capture just the right moments and looks from any event, no matter how big or small and eagerly shared his pictures with all involved. His beautiful smile and genuine nature will truly be missed, but his photos have captured a lifetime of lasting memories.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2019. Additional details will be provided by the family. We invite Paul’s family and friends to join us as we remember a genuinely amazing and loving man. Memorial donations may be made to M.D. Anderson at: https://www.mdanderson.org/donors-volunteers/donate/honor-loved-ones.html in honor of Paul. MD Anderson was an exceptional and caring facility and they did so much for Paul and Ruth. Their Team concept and on-going efforts kept Paul fighting and they continue to aide in the new discovery of treatments that will help others in late stage cancer.
