Olivia Hunter

Olivia (Mathews) Hunter 64 of Los Angeles, California, passed away on March 21st, 2012. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 30th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Greenwood Mortuary Chapel, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31st at 1:00 PM at Greenwood Mortuary Chapel.

Olivia Hunter was born on June 14, 1947 in Phoenix, Arizona to George F. Mathews and Bertha M. Mathews, both of whom

preceded her in death. She a very loving mother to Robert E. Hunter, Jr.; mother-in-law to Stephanie R. Hunter; and

grandmother to Robert E. Hunter III and Leslie T. Hunter. She was also a sister to Georgia M. Lindsey and Lawrence

Manning and sister-in-law to Harvey W. Lindsey. She also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.

Olivia accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl at Phillips Memorial CME Church, in Phoenix, Arizona. As an

adult, she attended several churches including: Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Phillips Temple CME Church, First AME

Church, and most recently, West Angeles Church of God in Christ.

After graduating from Phoenix Union High School in 1964, she continued her formal education at Phoenix College.

Olivia studied business and art.

In 1966, she married Robert E. Hunter, Sr. at Phillips Memorial CME Church in Phoenix, Arizona. The couple moved

westward to Los Angeles, California. In the summer of 1968, their son Robert E. Hunter, Jr. was born. Olivia was a

dedicated house-wife and mother.

In the 1970s, she began her career in bookkeeping and accounting for a variety of companies such as Mark C. Bloome.

For the next two decades, she continued her professional development in accounting and expanded her career at Hughes

Helicopters and Hughes Aircrafts. In the early 1990's, she retired from Hughes Aircrafts.

Olivia loved to travel and experience different cultures. Her travels included Bangkok, Hong Kong, the Bahamas, and

Hawaii. Of course, one of the highlights of these trips was the shopping opportunities.

Olivia's retirement was wonderful. She was a permanent fixture at the Marina Del Rey Jazz Concert Series. She was

very artistic. She made beautiful Christmas orniments out of simple pine cones. She was an avid knitter and made

baby blankets for her grandchildren. Shopping was her hobby too. She seemed to know every single employee at the

Costco on Century Blvd. because of her frequent visits. She even had her preferred vendors at the Redondo Beach

Blvd. Swapmeet. She had a great eve for interior design and that showed throughout her home. Her tables were

adorned with her personal style and varied throughout the seasons. She doted on her grandchildren. On Grandma

Fridays, she would scoop up her grandkids and take them home with her for a day or two. Every Thursday night, she

call her daughter-in-law and say, "Where are my babies? Is the diaper bag ready for tomorrow? It's Grandma Friday

and I've been waiting all week !!!"

Olivia had a tremendous heart. She extended the gift of love to many family members and friends throughout her

life. They also gave her "much love" in return. This unconditional expression of love is truly her legacy, and

will be continued through her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
