Margaret Gretchen Quinn, always "G.G." to her two granddaughters, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, in Phoenix, Arizona, the city that became her home after her marriage to Russ Quinn, a handsome sailor from Indianapolis who swept her off her feet in the spring of 1944. Born September 22, 1922 in Virginia, Illinois, to Fred and Anna Matilda Donovan, Gretchen and her seven siblings grew up in the hard times of the Great Depression, in an era when family was everything, and the strong values forged in those early years stayed with her throughout her life. In the mid-1950's, she completed her degree in education at Arizona State University, and began a career as an elementary school teacher that spanned more than three decades, most of that in the Scottsdale Public School District. She loved life, loved to laugh, had a flair for the dramatic, and was both kind and generous to all who knew her. She took tremendous pride in her home, loved to garden, loved to decorate and celebrate the holidays. Above all else she loved her family and her church. Gretchen was pre-deceased by her husband B. Russell Quinn, who passed away, much too soon, in 1968, as well as by her parents, Fred and Tillie Donovan, by her brothers Russell and Virgil Donovan, and by her sisters Maxine Boehme, Freda Roberts, and Norma Loeffler. She is survived by her brother Fred Donovan of Phoenix and her sister Doraline Logan of Marion, Illinois, as well as by her daughter, Sandra McCalla, of Newport Beach California, her son Richard Quinn of Phoenix and Washington D.C., by her granddaughters Lauren Quinn Tomchak of Phoenix and Devon McCalla of Newport Beach, by her great-granddaughter, Quinn Malaya Tomchak, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many, many good friends. We will all miss her. May she rest in peace. Visitation will be held at A.L. Moore Grimshaw, 710 W. Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, on Friday, August 19th, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Services will be held at her beloved All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central on Saturday, August 20th at 2:30 PM. www.ALMoore-Grimshaw.com
