Our beloved, husband, father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Jorge Joaquin Dorantes, age 85 was granted his angel wings on April 18, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 16, 1938, in Acanceh, Yucatan, Mexico to his parents Julio & Concepcion Dorantes, he was one of 3 children. Jorge grew up in Merida, Yucatan, and as a young adult moved to work in a Mahogany Wood Mill in Zoh-Laguna, Campeche, Mexico, where he was a member of the Caobas Mexicanos baseball team as a 2nd baseman. He also met his wife Elsy M. Dorantes, a cheerleader for the team and Carnival Queen and were united in marriage in 1961. The couple celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary January 14, 2023. Jorge, immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he lived most of his life in Los Angeles, California before retiring to Phoenix, Arizona in 2001.
He is survived by his 2 siblings, Antonio, and Felipe Dorantes. He had 7 children, Elsy Pecaro-Delgado, Angelica Mahboob, Martha Mariscal, George, Alfred, Tom, and David Dorantes. He had 18 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grand Children. Jorge was the trailblazer to our large Yucatan family creating many unforgettable memories, a love for baseball, and videotaping all our family events. He provided strength, support and unconditional love of his children and their families. He always brought happiness and was willing to help anyone he met. He loved traveling the world, casinos, dancing, woodwork and spending time with the family. Jorge will be missed and is now reunited with our mom, Elsy, his parents, and grandson Michael Pecaro. We love you Dad, Rest in Peace our Guardian Angels.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM Rosary, 10:00 AM Mass at Mission San Fernando Rey de España, 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd, Mission Hills, California followed by a walking procession at 11:00am to his final resting place in San Fernando Catholic Cemetery with his wife.
