Born in Phoenix on August 18, 1977, Jason led a life full of love, joy and service to his family, friends, colleagues and the greater community, always seeking to embody his motto, “be kind.” He was guided by a deep, innate sense of goodness to “do the right thing,” a mission and phrase he often shared with and advocated to others.
The strong moral compass for which Jason was known and respected throughout his life led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. From there, beginning in September 2000, he built and treasured a distinguished, 19-year career in the Glendale Police Department, receiving many awards and achieving the rank of lieutenant. Prior to his service as a law enforcement officer, Jason served in the United States Army from 1997 to 2000. He was a graduate of Glendale High School.
One of many ways that Jason expressed his love of life was through his passions, which included fast cars, traveling, poker, attending rock concerts, cheering on his son Jaxon at his track competitions and anything green-apple flavored.
Jason is survived by his wife Melissa, son Jaxon, mother Connie Szymanski (Brewster), stepfather Leonard Szymanski, brothers Troy and Shane Zimmerman and many stepsiblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. Waiting for Jason in the light with open arms were his father and stepmother, Jack and Debbie Zimmerman.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com for the Zimmerman family.
