Hal was born on December 9, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan to Kazimiera and Martin Pawlowski, joining his siblings – Joseph, Martin, and Jeanette. As a youth, he could be found tagging along with his older sister on her dates as she looked after him. When he reached high school, he built on his love of sports by playing football and baseball and wrestling. While in high school, Hal took on family responsibilities, learning to drive the store truck at age 15 to help make deliveries for customers. After the death of his father while he was still in high school, Hal took on additional work to help support the family.
Hal served proudly in the Navy, stationed in Hawaii, travelling to many South Pacific Islands, the Far East, and Korea. While in the Navy, he enjoyed scuba diving with his best friend Griff. He enjoyed the adventures of sea life and the freedom of his motorcycle. After the Navy, Hal entered Michigan State University to study Electrical Engineering. The world changed for Hal when he met Carolyn, the love of his life. Hal would have told you that he had dreamed of a life in the Navy, including becoming a flyer. However, meeting Carolyn changed all those plans. He saw in her his life and his future – turning into an amazing life filled with love – 64 years of marriage.
Over those 64 years, Hal and Carolyn created a world of love. Hal and Carolyn brought Scott, Chris, Lora, Kevin, Craig, and Lisa into the world. The years have been filled with singing, New Year’s fondue parties, technical adventures, like giant rooftop Christmas stars, and sports. Hal loved his sports. He loved watching his kids play sports, watching college athletes play sports, and watching professionals participate in sports. If you could name it, you could find Hal watching it. The joy Hal took in sports reverberated throughout the household. Hal happily got to see his beloved Suns win a game Friday, 13 December, enjoying the game with his son, Chris.
Hal’s legacy continues in his children and his 13 grandchildren – Angie, Nick, Kaity, Adam, Brian, Cat, Kyle, Emily, Bec, Sarah, Alexander, Allegra, and Sean. Also, in his eight great grandchildren – Paige, Austin, Dylan, Jaxon, Mya, Tae, Jude, and Juliet and his great-great grandchild Lucas. Hal lived a life of fun, love, and adventure. He served God faithfully, providing an example of true love of the Lord, our Savior. Hal will be meeting his first two daughters, lost just prior to and at birth, in addition to his parents and his siblings in the Heavenly Kingdom.
