Harold Leland Keeler passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 in Sun City, AZ. Harold was born October 6, 1925 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Stanley and Hazel Keeler and grew up on their farm near Barnard, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Claude, and his loving wife, Dorothy (Thye) of 65 years. He attended Barnard High School and then served in the Navy during WWII. He then earned a BS in Civil Engineering from SDSU and went on to a distinguished career as a railroad engineer. He held positions as District Engineer/Division Chief for CNW RR and MoPac RR in Huron, Chicago, St. Louis and Little Rock before moving to San Francisco with the Federal Railroad Administration in 1974 as Regional Track & Safety Engineer. After retiring in 1992, Harold and Dorothy moved to Phoenix and spent many happy days with family and friends. He loved pheasant hunting, fishing, listening to baseball, a good glass of wine, dancing with Dorothy, bowling, traveling back to the Midwest, and family gatherings. He is survived by three children: Teena Otterness, Gregory Keeler, Dawn Kludt; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Harold will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a devoted father and grandfather, and great storyteller. Funeral Services are being held 10:00 AM with visitation one hour prior on Monday, March 3 at Phoenix Memorial Park: 200 W. Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, Arizona 85027, (623)434-7000.
