Georgia James Edwards, 87, died peacefully in her sleep on February 22, 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Garcia (husband Richard Garcia), her son, George Michael Edwards, her daughter, Dorthea (Dory) Edwards Gosar (husband Chad Gosar), her sisters Isabel Gomez and Amelia (Nina) O’Brien, her brothers, Harry James and Tom James, and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, George S. Edwards, of Arizona.
Georgia was born on December 5, 1929, in Nogales, Arizona, to parents Amelia Valenzuela and Harry James (Harilamopos Chames Skylogiannis). After graduating from Woodbury College in California; she lived and worked throughout Central America. Upon returning to the states, she married George Edwards whose career in telecommunications took them around the world with work sites in countries including, Spain, Iran, and Saudi Arabia before eventually retuning to the United States in the 1980s. After living and working in the San Francisco area in the 1990s, she and George resettled in Phoenix.
Throughout her life Georgia loved music, dance, and film (she worked as an extra in several Hollywood movies). She was always actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and enjoyed volunteering in her community wherever she lived.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 12 p.m. at the Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Avenue in Phoenix, with a reception to follow at the Gosar residence. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Georgia’s life. The family would like to thank everyone at The Beatitudes and Hospice of The Valley who participated in her care.
