Edward Mitchell, of Phoenix, AZ went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 2020. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM February 6, 2020 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3030 E. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85032. Interment with Military Honors will be scheduled at a later date.
Edward joined the US Air Force at the age of 17. He served several years as a K-9 handler with the security police. His favorite K-9 was a German Shepard named Frederick Von Becon (Smokey). He crossed trained to become a B52 Gunner and logged over 2000+ hours flying. He served several tours in South East Asia during his 25 years of service, before retiring in 1985. Ed was stationed at several bases including, Lockbourne, Clark, Davis Motham, Castle, Kincheloe and Grand Forks. Ed loved flying and being part of the B52 Gunner era. He was passionate about Veteran rights, especially Vietnam Vets.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jospeh and Martha Mitchell of Cincinnati, Ohio. Survivors include his wife of 53 1/2 years Laraine Gerhart. Children; Edward J. Mitchell (Elizabeth), Heather Douglas (Gerald) and Stephan G. Mitchell. Grandchildren; Eileen Delgado (Edward Cruz) Elijah Gonzales, Israel Gonzales and Skylar Mitchell. Great-grandchildren; Aliah Delgado, Elias Delgado and Isla Cruz. Siblings, Isabella, John, William, and Kate. Numerous nieces and nephews.
