David and Toby Brooks remember Dorothy with love and respect.  We met in the 1950s in Boulder.  We admored her kindness, adaptability and commitment to fairness. She will be greatly missed.

I have attached photos, all from her book, "Following Through With Young Children," of the way I will remember and continue to fill my world with thoughts of Dorothy.  She was most influential in my life in the realms of spirituality, education, and raising a daughter.  Her signature was her ever-ready smile, absolutely the broadest,  and most radiant I have ever experienced!  She was an unflinching champion of children and human beings, with kindness and understanding the unshakable underpinnings.  I undoubtedly have many other family photos from the years she graced our lives, especially from our wedding.  All are glued into albums, to be revisited and will feel like the warm hand hold that Dorothy loved to give.  Hugs, laughter, delight, praise all emanated from her generously and genuinely.

I shall miss her so; I will remember her with great joy.

Dorothy enriched the world, it is a better place for her having lived joyously in it.  She presided at our wedding in 1976 and what a fun event it was.  Many of us will remember her stirring rendition of the poem "Jump up, oh my soul, put on your jumping shoes!"  Her closing prayer was just at meaningful.  I will always carry her in my heart and strive to be a better, more caring, loving, respectful person because of her.

Old friends are best.  Helen brought some Red Oak friends to have lunch with her Omaha friends - Evie Zysman and Dorothy Hill.

Grandmother, I will always remember how every year you would come to Colorado with a box full of books. My children looked forward to your visits not for the books themselves but for you. You would open each book one-by-one, explain why it was a special book and proceed to read through each book. 

The time you dedicated to your great-grandchildren to cultivate a love for reading and knowledge was not in vain. Maggie is now an inspiring author, Rainie an amazing poet and Danny has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. You made your imprint on them and they will forever be your legacy.

I feel so blessed to have had Dorothy and John as my aunt and Uncle. Dorothy was my dad's sister. She has been a role model for me as a mother, a professional, a person who continued to make a difference for children, for women, and for anyone with whom she came in contact.  Her strong faith in God and her optimism and confidence in the future warmed my heart. I cherish the opportunity to join in the celebration of her life in Omaha.

The Reverend Dorothy Hill presided  at the marriage of Leslie Wiseman and Randy Pauley.  But Dorothy was so much more, she was always there with  a smile and a positive outlook on life.  Just being with her was uplifting.  To John and Dororthy's kids we want you to know she will always be in our thoughts and our prayers.  We are better for having known her.

Her smile lit up a room. Her laughter was contagious. Her faith could move mountains. Dorothy was an original. Words can not properly express what she and John have meant to our family. Her spirit endures with all who were blessed to know her and to experience her warmth, compassion, and exuberance. We look forward to celebrating her life, with her family in our midst, at First Central on September 15.

In the late 1970s, I met Dorothy at an early childhood education meeting in Omaha, NE.  Right away, I learned that she authored the book, Mud, Sand, and Water.  It's a fine primer-still available in paperback-which is a very useful guide to giving young children the opportunity to have fun while having the opportunity to physically and mentally challenge themselves to everyday life issues.  This book and her ebullience for life is a part of her legacy for generations to come.  Gail L. Flanery
