David Barton Smith, 92, of Phoenix, was born in Bowman, North Dakota, on August 29, 1929. Bart passed away in the early hours of October 31, 2021, after several years of declining. He lived on the farm east of Rhame, N.D. with his mother and siblings and graduated from the Rhame High School. He professed at age 11 and was faithful to his Heavenly Father until the end of his life. On March 15, 1952 he married Marian Haakenson from Bismarck, N.D. They lived on the family farm, where their first two children were born, until moving to Phoenix in November of 1957, where their last two children were born. In 1958, Bart took the test for the Phoenix Fire Dept and continued on to rank of engineer, retiring in August of 1989, working 31 years as a firefighter. Early in the 1960’s a Sunday morning meeting was placed in their home. They continued having meetings after moving to Union Hills Dr, giving up the meeting many years later, for health reasons. Bart is survived by his wife, Marian, children, Lorrain (John) Gall of Phoenix, Linda Lewis of Colorado Springs, Laurie Schoen of Glendale; three grandchildren; Jeff Lewis of Virginia, Barak Gall of Colorado, Shera Tonazzi of Arizona; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Whitley of New Salem, ND; Hilla Whitley of Rogersville, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Lynn; his parents and five siblings.
