Early Sunday morning on 5/19/2013, while performing the job he loved, Daryl was killed in the line of duty serving his community as a Phoenix Police Officer in the Maryvale precinct. He served on the Phoenix Police Department for 6 years working in patrol. Prior to becoming a Police Officer Daryl had served in the Navy for 6 years and did 2 tours to Iraq as a corpsman. He loved soccer, dune trips, coaching Tatum’s soccer team, and spending quality time with family and friends. He will be most remembered by his goofy smile, sense of humor, service to his country and community, and dedication to his family and friends. Daryl was an amazing husband, father, friend, son and brother. Daryl is survived by his wife Stephanie, his daughter Tatum, his mother Cindy, his dad and stepmother Bill and Tracy Raetz, his mother in law and father in law Jeff and Vicky, his brother Derek and Megan and his nephew Trigger, grandparents Dick Newman and Irma Raetz, and a huge family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E Greenway Rd., Phoenix, AZ. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 9 am at Christ’s Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road, Peoria, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Midfirst Bank with the account name of Hands Across Arizona for the benefit of Officer Daryl Raetz or PLEA Charities.
