Outstanding going all the way back to when we met at Sahuaro High School, Darcy was an all-around great woman who I admired. You are in my prayers, Darcy... rest in peace.

Life transitions of loved ones are some of the most difficult to bear.  The depth of our grief is a reflection of the depth of our love.  

Darcy was a respected colleague whom I had the opportunity to work with closely for a time in Workforce Development. She always treated me kindly.  After I moved to HR, we met monthly to ensure she was receiving the support needed.  In fact, we were scheduled to meet today. It was with sadness I removed the meeting from my calendar.

My heart goes out to Darcy's family at this time and I pray they may be comforted at this time of sorrow.

I had the pleasure of meeting Darcy not long after she graduated from law school and was starting her career. She was an impressive person. First-rate sardonic wit, fearless appetite for ideas and knowledge, and most memorably to me, a deep reservoir of sensitivity and compassion that flowed beneath her tough lawyerly intellect. She also had connections of friendship and family as strong as I have ever seen. My heart goes out to them during this difficult time.

Sending love and light to Darcy’s family, friends and to Larry and Ava. Darcy was simply one of a kind: beautiful, kind, smart, funny and she lifted anyone up just by her being! I am sorry we lost track of each other after college. We lived blocks away from each other for our Semester Abroad in London. It was great to have a sorority pal nearby while we found our way around London. While we were still a little jet-lagged, Darcy also saved me from some shenanigans caused by a crazy roommate.

Over the past three decades our paths often crossed.  Darcy was a extraordinary human whose spirit filled a room. She was kind, funny and smart. She made the world a better place. I will miss her. 
My deepest condolences go out to her beautiful family. 

I first met Darcy back in 2017 at her office. We were on our early stages of figuring out what could be done to ensure Dreamers could reach their educational journey. Without skipping a beat, in the very Darcy fashion, asked many questions, had already thought about many details, and shared focused and poised advice. What surprised me the most about her, was her ability to remain humble and kind. She was there to support in any way she could, even someone who she didn’t know. As the years passed I continued to lean on Darcy. One of my favorite memories is meeting up for coffee at Lucy’s. Thank you for always making time to answer a text, a call, or grab coffee. Your legacy of public service and kindness towards humanity will always be treasured by many. You are so loved and we will deeply miss seeing you. 

To little Ava, you are not alone. There are so many of us that are holding you and your dad on our prayers. Sending you so much love in these difficult moments. 

I never knew her.  Which was my loss.  However, Larry I knew very well.  Although, it has been long since we have spoken.  I am quite assured that she was dearly loved by her husband and daughter…much love to all of the bereaved…Jeff Hymson.

Darcy was my childhood. From elementary school and all through high school. She was a fixture in my family & I in hers. So much so, that her parents filled out phony adoption papers on me. Darcy was strong, smart, vibrant and funny. My favorite memories include our many sleepovers,  spying on the adult Christmas party, tunneling under her pool cover, cheering for each other on swim team, surviving high school together, and our crazy BF mothers embarrassing us. Darcy's contributions to workforce were truly remarkable. Darcy was a passionate advocate for Maricopa, representing with grace and determination to leaders at all levels of government and in the business community. It is a profound loss for us and the broader community. Darcy's memory will continue to inspire us, and her legacy will endure through the positive impact she made on so many lives.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and cannot imagine the pain you're feeling.  Darcy was an incredible person and a wonderful mother.  I will miss her.  My thoughts are with you all, and I will keep a memory of Darcy in my heart forever.

Although we had lost touch in recent years, Darcy was a dear friend and an important part of so many lives, myself included. Darcy was my boss and gave me my first opportunity to grow into the individual I am today... I served as Darcy's assistant at MCCCD when she was still the Chief of Staff to the Chancellor... Darcy's energy, her light, and her ability to get work done was never matched. She was a ferocious defender and she was a vibrant and accomplished force. Working for Darcy I learned how to become the best version of myself professionally, and I learned how to truly be comfortable with myself. I will never forget Darcy, and I hope that Larry and Ava know how amazing she was to so many people. Darcy - May you light up the heavens and shine bright for all of us. Thank you for everything you taught me, everything you showed me, and thank you for seeing me like no others did. 



I am saddened to have learned of Darcy’s passing. During my tenure at Phoenix College, she was always kind and supportive. Her wise counsel and advocacy will be remembered always. 


Darcy was a really kind person, so down to earth and sympathetic. She gave me my first consulting gig back in 2009 and was so supportive throughout my career.  She was incredibly understanding and compassionate after my son died of cancer and just a good soul. Rest in power, friend, may your spirit live on in your beautiful daughter. 

I met Darcy in Washington DC and we worked together for Dennis Deconcini on Capitol Hill.  Darcy was smart, ambitious, and so fun and funny! Our paths crossed again in AZ through Education. She truly left her mark in this world and will be missed by all who knew her. Sending love and prayers to her beautiful daughter and husband. She left our world way too soon. We were all blessed to know her and share her beauty and light. 

Darcy had a light around her that made everyone feel warm. She never did anything halfway and brought the same passion and intensity to her work and her friendships. I was lucky enough to be one of her friends and I am grateful for all the memories we shared. I won't forget you, Darcy. Ever.

I am so saddened to know that Darcy is no longer with us. She was a shining light, but never one for the spotlight. She was humble, but made a huge positive impact on so many in her personal and public life. She was funny, kind, and always had that laugh that you felt deep within when you heard it. I was honored to be her friend for many years, and it breaks my heart to know that her light has left us way too soon. I am grateful to have known her, and glad I got to see her as a radiant and proud mother to her beautiful baby girl just a few short years ago. You were one of a kind, Darcy. We are so very sad to hear this news. We knew Darcy as a teenager when she was our kids’ favorite babysitter. Our heartfelt condolences to her parents, her sister and all of Darcy’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. 


Darcy was a wonderful human being who believed in the promise of all. I will always be grateful for Darcy meeting me to discuss in-state tuition in 2017 at her office. She didn't have to meet us, yet she did. She listened, assessed the situation, and gave us direction, connecting us with innovative, insightful, and caring individuals. It was always a joy catching up. I was a better person for knowing and spending time with Darcy. Her peers, mentees, and the community will sorely miss her. Thank you, Darcy, for always believing in the goodness of humans and pushing us to be better humans :).

I met Darcy through Gov. Napolitano’s office when I was in college. She barely knew me yet encouraged me and believed in my strengths during a time when I didn’t feel capable/deserving.  She opened doors to great opportunities and reminded me consistently I deserved to sit at the table she gave me a seat at. I’ve spent the last 15 years working to increase access to college for Arizonans - and I have Darcy to thank for lighting my fire. 

I’m sorry I didn’t thank Darcy for her impact before she left us, taking for granted the times I’ve worked with her since. While this loss is great, it’s a somber reminder to make sure I’m the spark for others, especially women. 💕 Love to her husband and daughter who shared her light with all of us - thank you 💕

This news is so sad - Darcy was my boss (and friend) when we worked together at SFAz. She was smart, hardworking and made such a valuable contribution as a leader in STEM education. She will be missed. Sending healing vibes to her family, friends and loved ones. 

My sincere condolences to the family.  Larry, I am devastated for your little one.  Darcy was sooooooooooooooo proud of her.  I had no idea Darcy had the "C" word, I have not kept up with her in years, other than Facebook, I'm sorry to say.  I hate cancer.      

I am so very sorry to learn of Darcy’s passing. Growing up in the same neighborhood and being on the swim team with one of the Cool Older Kids was something I’ll never forget. She was so much fun to be around and trail after, hoping to be as beautiful, and cool.  Rest in peace Cool Kid ❤️

My deepest sorrow and condolences to Darcy's beloved family. She was one of our brightest lights. Gone in the human experience,  her brilliant spirit endures.

It was a pleasure working with Darcy Renfro.  We often crossed paths while working at the Maricopa Community Colleges.  I think I will miss Darcy's candid dry humor the most.

I have so many fond memories to share that I don't know where to begin. Darcy was a bright light from the day I met her in my very first year teaching at the University of Arizona College of Law. I still have a paper that she wrote telling me about who she was and what her goals were--all beautiful wishes to make a positive difference for others, which she certainly did. I chose her as my very first Ares Fellow because she was so bright, wise, mature, vibrant and kind.  She made everything fun--not just for the students in the class behind her, but also for me. Over the years we had many talks that I still remember--the importance of teaching STEM in Arizona, the choices in balancing work life and other life. Darcy was instrumental in the MCCCD-Arizona Law BA program, which has enabled community college students to get 4 year degrees. On issues of education, she was always the first support. Only a year ago we had talked about the day she could participate in the Arizona Law Phoenix Program. I miss her greatly.  She was much beloved by her teachers, her classmates, and the whole Arizona Law community. If there is anything that I or the Law College can do to support her family and to honor her memory, please let us know and it will be done. As was said of Kennedy, Darcy "had every gift but length of years."
