Beverley Isobel (Roddie) Smith

Beverley was born in Flint, Michigan in 1939. Beverley was one of seven children in her family. She had two brothers Robert and Lee, and she had 4 sisters Donna, Bonnie, Sharon, and Rosemary. Beverley graduated from Maricopa Community College in Phoenix, Arizona with an associates degree in art. Beverley worked as a commercial artist for several years before going back to college to study nursing. Beverley graduated from college with an Associates degree in nursing from Westmoreland Community College in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. Beverley loved being a nurse, and she proudly worked as one for over 40 years. Beverley first worked as an ICU nurse in Pennsylvania, and she finally retired at around 72 years of age from Baptist Village at Sunridge Nursing Home in Sun City, Arizona after over 30 years working in skilled nursing care. She enjoyed caring for others.

Beverley was married twice. Her first marriage was to Boyd Smith, and they were married about 32 years. Boyd and Beverley had 4 children together. Her second marriage was to Steve Zabrocki. Steve and Beverley were together for about 25 years.

Beverley's hobbies were expressions of her artistic talents and giving heart. She was constantly working on arts and crafts projects, and she gave many gifts from this passion. She also love entertaining, baking, and cooking. Beverley made holiday goodies for dozens of people every year, and this brought her great joy. Everyone loved her food gifts. Beverley had a way of warming up every room, and she loved making new friends.

Beverley loved to travel, and she regularly visited her sisters, brothers, children and grandchildren every summer. She also took many cruises with her sisters. Beverley has relatives in Scotland, and she made two trips there with her sisters to meet her father's family. She enjoyed planning her trips as much as taking them.

Beverley is survived by two sons Michael Smith and Mark Smith; two sisters Bonnie Doolittle and Sharon Gillespie; six grandchildren Sarah Peterson, Charity Elliott, Oscar Goras, Jack Goras, Alex Smith, and Joshua Smith.

Beverley was preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and Alexander Roddie, son Marty Smith, daughter Marsha Goras, ex-husband Boyd Smith, brother Robert Roddie, brother Lee Roddie, sister Donna Kump, sister Rosemary Roddie, and grandson Andrew Goras, and in-laws Daisy and Charlie Smith.

A memorial gathering for Beverley will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at A.L Moore - Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 West Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
