Agnes, often referred to as “Aggie,” was born September 4, 1930 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania to parents Frank and Barbara Salopek, first generation Croatian immigrants. Agnes grew up in a largely Croatian community and throughout her life was very proud of her Croatian heritage. After meeting the love of her life, Joseph Tomac, together they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they established roots and started a family. While raising her family, she also worked at Walsh Bros. Office Furniture, from which she retired in 1996. Her joy and priority was always her family.
Her husband, Joseph, preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Moscarello; son, Michael (Jill) Tomac; grandchildren, Andrea (Bradley) Bidese, Ashley (Grant) Turner, Shea and Becca Tomac; granddogs, Calvin, Cooper, and Lola; and her brother, John Salopek. She was also a beloved aunt to many.
Agnes was a devoted Arizona State football and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved cooking, polka dancing, and spending time with her family. Her love extended beyond her family, touching the lives of countless friends and community members. We will miss the way she made everyone feel special.
A memorial service to celebrate Agnes’ life will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10-11 a.m. at the Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. A reception lunch in Chandler will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Valley (https://www.hov.org/donate/). The family requests those in attendance wear blue in memory of Agnes’ favorite color.
Rest in peace Agnes. You will forever be in our hearts.
