A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Monday, May 22, 2023 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL with Pastor David Hardwick officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM prior to the service. Burial follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Shirley Ann Cook was born December 15, 1935 in Phenix City, Alabama to Buford and Thera Casaday Pugh. After graduating from Central High School in 1953, she began working at Sears Roebuck and Company located on Broadway in Columbus. She continued working at Sears until her retirement.
She was an active, dedicated member of Central Baptist Church since age 16.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her senior citizen group which included the East Coast and Hawaii. She enjoyed walking at the lake, taking classes at the YMCA and Zumba classes. She was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her children and grandchildren. Her absolute joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and most recently her husband, Jack W. Cook, Sr. who passed away March 25, 2023 after celebrating 68 years of marriage.
Survivors include her sister, Melanie Sessions, son, Wayne Cook (Vicki), daughter, Terri Obert Roland (Mike), granddaughters, Kristi Pope (John), Karri Webster (Adam), Kayli Obert Knowles (Corbin), Kathryn Obert Riley (Micah); great grandchildren, Anna Grace Webster, Tyger Webster, Camp Knowles, Jack Knowles and great grandson, "Baby Riley" on the way.
The family offers a special thanks to her wonderful caregivers that have been so helpful to she and her husband over the past six months; Sandy Herring, Wanda Sherman and Kathryn Jones.
