At the age of 18, Martin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a Machine Gunner, earning his Pistol Expert Badge and his Rifle Expert Badge as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October of 1964. Martin used the skills he learned in the Corps and applied them to his job as an appliance technician at Sears Roebuck & Co. where he worked for over 25 years His love for mechanics and having wonderful conversations with people, led him to opening up a successful small appliance business with his loving wife, Lucy, and his two sons, James Bramble and David Bramble--All In One Appliance- in McAllen, TX Together they worked side by side, tirelessly, doing what he loved, servicing the Rio Grande Valley in repairing small and large appliances. You could always count on Martin to come in to your home, spark up wonderful conversations, and provide the highest quality service to your home appliances. It was through this business that he taught his sons many valuable life lessons as well as many intricate mechanical lessons. Martin could fix anything you put in front of him. Martin continued expanding his business and ventured out into the reverse osmosis water systems- Ecowater. He went door to door, making cold calls, educating the public on the importance of having soft water in your homes and delicious fresh drinking water. All this before bottled water ever existed. He was passionate about always learning new things. He never turned down an opportunity to have a conversation with a stranger, and when things got heated with an upset customer, Martin was always there to calm the situation down. He always knew how to make any bad situation better. You could always find him in his backyard perhaps helping Lucy with her many gardening projects, planting and harvesting seasonal vegetables in their garden or simply enjoying the outdoors. He would spend countless hours preparing his arrows, working on his aim in preparation for hunting season. If ever there was a lesson to be taught about hunting, you surely could rely on Martin to teach you everything he knew. He enjoyed the tranquility of God’s creation and respected every animal he hunted.
One of Martin’s favorite things to do was to sit with his grandchildren, telling his elaborate stories of when he was a child; always taking advantage of an opportunity to give free advice or teach a lesson. “Pappo”, as his grandchildren referred to him, always encouraged a love for the outdoors, new adventures and limitless opportunities. One thing they took from him was to never say “no” to trying new foods or new experiences and to always try everything at least once. He always encouraged them to never be afraid of creatures small or large, but rather to understand and have compassion for God’s creations. Pappo always believed in his grandchildren, and knew they would find their perfect place in this world. He loved them dearly.
Martin was a true patriot. He loved his country but he loved God and his family more.
Besides loving God, his family and his country, he also loved the Cowboys, especially if they were winning.
