A matriarch in every sense, Alicia instilled her passion for culinary arts in her children, imparting the secrets of her unrivaled flour tortillas and ensuring that both her sons and daughters could hold their own in the kitchen. Her love for polka dots was more than just a sartorial preference—it symbolized a precious moment in time, a dress she wore on the day she united with her soulmate, Jose. Alicia will be remembered as the bold, strong-minded soul she was, and outspoken. No one could sway her against her will, and she stood as a formidable protector for her loved ones, never allowing anyone to take advantage of her or her family. Yet her feisty nature was tempered by a boundless capacity to love. She laughed easily, her sense of humor a beacon that drew people close, allowing her to tease and joke with affection. Her legacy is etched in the laughter she shared, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the courage with which she faced life's challenges. Alicia Rivera was a force to be reckoned with, a source of inspiration, and most importantly, a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend.
She is survived by eight children, Ruth (Felipe) Betancourt, Maria (Juan) Ponce, Elizabet Rivera, Cristobal Rivera, Veronica Rivera, Jose (Katty) Rivera Jr., Janie (Albert) Arguello, Humberto (Melissa) Rivera; thirty-two grandkids; forty-five great grandchildren; many more family and friends.
Alicia is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Prisco Rivera; her daughter, Valentina Rivera; and her parents, Maria Del Socorro and Julian Torres.
