William L. Hatch was born January 10, 1950 to Archie Hatch and Ruby Hatch in Elgin Texas. William was the sixth (6) child of seven (7) children born to this union. William died Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his home in Austin, Texas after a lengthy battle with heart disease. His parents and two sons, William L. and Keith Hatch preceded him in death.
William confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend Mackey at Lakeview Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas. He remained a member throughout his formative years.
He received his formal education at, what was then named, Booker T. Washington Public School in Elgin. After high school, William enlisted in the United States Army where he served from October 1969 to May 1987. He traveled the world over during his Army career. William was a highly decorated Vietnam Infantryman, where he received two bronze stars, one for valor. Also, William was a Drill Sergeant. He loved this assignment. He carried some of his Drill Sergeant ways into life after the Army.
He leaves to honor his memory: his sons, Mark Hatch (Michele) of Leander, TX; Antoine Hatch of St. Louis, MO; Joseph Hatch of Houston, TX; brothers, Charles E. Hatch (Velma) of Kennedale, TX; Clyde D. Hatch of Austin, TX; sisters, Darlyne Spencer of Dallas, TX; Ora L. Arnold of Pflugerville, TX; Vernell Everett (Lewis) of San Antonio, TX; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Oh! Let’s not forget his faithful companion, his miniature Doberman Pincher guard dog SARGE.
