William S. Cobb of Round Rock, Texas (formerly of Point Pleasant, NJ) died January 14, 2016 at the age of 91 surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on May 11, 1924, in West Nyack, NY, and spent most of his first 34 years in Brooklyn, NY. He went to Erasmus Hall High School where he played football and baseball, and was the strong side end on the Erasmus football team in 1941 that went undefeated and only allowed two points.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from Brooklyn Poly, now a part of N.Y.U.
He worked for the New York Housing Authority for many years before moving to Point Pleasant, NJ, in 1958 to start Cobb Builders with his father, William G. Cobb. He ran Cobb Builders for about 20 years before becoming the construction official for Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, NJ, in the mid-‘70s. He performed those tasks for almost 25 years before retiring at the age of 75.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Terry, who he dated for nine years before marrying her on June 4, 1950. The center of Terry and Bill’s life was their family. Bill is survived by his daughter, Janet of Peoria, Arizona, his son Bill and his wife, Carole, of Prairie Village, KS, and his daughter, Nancy DeBeau and her husband, Victor, of Round Rock, TX. The absolute joy of his life was his eight grandchildren (Amanda, Andrew and his wife, Caitrin, and Matthew and his wife, Victoria, Boury; Will, Zachary, and Jason Cobb; and Dayna and Camryn DeBeau) and one great grandchild (Declyn Boury).
Beyond his family, Bill had other loves: Orlando, FL, Disney World, Mickey Mouse, the New York Jets, the Point Pleasant Lions Club, and happy hour. He lived in or near Point Pleasant, NJ, his whole life and there is a bench on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant near Risden’s Beach bearing his and Terry’s names. Bill also loved the ocean, the boardwalk, Hoffman’s Ice Cream, and parties—whether they be summer barbeques in the backyard, Thanksgiving at his house, or Christmas parties. He loved life, always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to tell. He was someone everyone loved being around.
The family will be hosting a viewing on Saturday, January 23rd from 2-5pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660 . On the next day, there will be a celebration of his life at 12 noon at Cook-Walden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Heart Association at http://honor.americanheart.org/goto/Bill_Cobb would honor his life well lived.
