Sally Patricia Hall

Sally Patricia Hall, of Austin, Texas, died August 10, 2021. She was born December 30, 1935 in Crystal City, Texas and was a sixth generation Texan who was a descendent of the Tumlinson, Winn, and Brown families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Hall; son David Hall; parents David Carr and Ruth Brown Carr; and brothers John Carr and Charlie Carr. She is survived by her children Raymond Hall, Greg Hall and his wife Karen, and Donna Hall Korban; sister Annette Carr Harkey and brother Ron Carr; granddaughter Elyssa Korban; granddaughter Stephanie Kruger and her husband Dustin Kruger, great-grandchildren Braden Kruger, Brooklynn Kruger, and Bryson Kruger; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Sally’s childhood was spent in Mathis, Texas where she grew up on her family’s farm. Her love of genealogy and all things Texan were formed during this time. She cherished the stories her maternal grandfather, Charles Robert Brown, would tell of his family’s journey to Texas and also the time she spent with her aunts Daisy Brown, Madge Brown, and Nettie Brown. Sally would acknowledge the difficulties of growing up as a farmer’s child where there were years of either feast or famine, but she always appreciated the memories and friendships she created during this time.

After graduating from high school Sally attended The University of Texas at Austin where she majored in art history and was an active member in the university’s Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Epsilon Delta chapter. Sally met her husband, Dale Hall, at a sorority event while Dale was stationed at Gary Air Force Base in San Marcos and they married in New Braunfels, Texas in 1954. Sally and Dale moved back to Crystal City in 1955, where Sally worked as a book keeper for her father’s produce farm and shipment business. While living on the farm their oldest child David was born. Then Raymond, Greg, and Donna were born after moving into town for Dale’s construction business.

In 1969 Sally and her family moved to Austin for Dale’s business. During her time in Austin, Sally would work as a book keeper for a handful of businesses before taking over the book keeping duties for Dale’s remodeling business. With the children grown and more free time on her hands, Sally began her serious dive into her family’s genealogy which afforded her the opportunity to publish a book about the Carr family and create the Wells Cemetery Association in Lockhart, Texas. Sally became an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution Andrew Carruthers Chapter, the Descendants of Austin’s Old Three Hundred, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Caddell-Smith Chapter. Sally greatly enjoyed volunteering for U.S. Naturalization ceremonies, sharing her knowledge of genealogy and the “tricks of the trade” before the invention of Ancestry.com, and taking trips down to South Texas to catch up with her family and to check on the crops at the family farm.

We will greatly miss Sally's wit, spunk, and warm smile.
