Myra passed into Heaven on November 22, 2022, after struggling with ALS.
Myra Sue Israel Schomburg was born on Monday, December 18th, 1950, in Nightingale Hospital in El Campo, TX. Her parents, Reverend Carl L.W. Israel and Kathryn Stanley Israel, took her home to the parsonage next to the First United Methodist Church in Garwood, TX, on December 25th, 1950. She was welcomed home by her older brother, Luther Paul, and sister, Carolyn Kay. They were lovely well-behaved children and it did not prepare Carl and Kathryn to raise Myra Sue.
Moving was a common part of her childhood as a preacher’s kid. Her first one was in June 1951 from Garwood to Dripping Springs.
The people, music, and spiritual life of the Methodist Church were a constant part of Myra’s life of love and service. She attended public schools all over Southwest Texas. Each city contributed beloved teachers and friends to her life. In 1968, she graduated from Ganado High School with her most beloved classmates. In July 1968, she entered the University of Texas at Austin for a brief time.
On March 22, 1969, she married Ronald Jene Klekar and on November 3rd, 1969, she gave birth to their beloved daughter, Rhonda Marie Klekar. During her marriage to Ronnie, she lived in Houston, Texas. In October, 1971, she moved back to Austin to begin the journey of being a single mother to her brave, daring, smart, sweet Rhonda.
Myra was blessed to marry Carl Schomburg on July 12, 1975. Carl was a fabulous life coach, stepfather and father until his death in 2014. In August, 1978, she and Carl made their final move to their home in Brushy Creek North. Their daughter, Abigail Renee brought much love into the world on August 6th, 1979. Her husband, James Wylie, and two sons, Jamison and Jayden continue to share that gift of love.
Myra’s work life was full of learning and loving new people. Her first career was in mortgage lending from 1971-1981 in Houston and Austin. Myra’s second career was several part-time jobs. Secretary to the First United Methodist Church of Round Rock, doing matting and framing for local Round Rock artist, Don Kent, and administrative support “Mom” to Jerry Holmes and his team of software developers. Her third career was administrative assistant to Russell Bridges of 3M Austin Center for thirteen years.
During her entire life God gave her many abilities and skills to help the ministry of every church family in her life. She was touched by so many through music, committees, UMYF youth work, mission trips, bibles studies, Adult Sunday School, and most recently by the Upper Room’s Academy of Spiritual formation (#39).
Myra is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Klekar of Round Rock and Abbie Schomburg Wylie (James); her grandsons, Jamison and Jayden Wylie of Katy, Texas; her brother, Paul Israel (Debbie) of Austin, Texas; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Butch Canon of Round Rock Texas; her grand-dogs Harley, Rylie, Frankie and Puddles; her beloved sister-in-law, Sharon Schomburg of Houston, Texas; Brother-in-law, Ralph (Dawn) of Wakefield, LA; her sister-in-law, Nelda Hensley and her spiritual sponsor, Dr. David B. Hensley of Victoria Texas, extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and their children who are a beloved part of her life in countless ways.
Myra will be greeted in Heaven by her beloved husband, Carl, her parents, Carl and Kathryn, and countless family and friends.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the Heart to Heart Hospice and her Caregivers that supported our family on this journey.
