On March 1, 1941, she married Cecil T. Smith, and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his death in 1994. When Cecil returned from WWII, they settled in North Austin. She loved hunting and fishing with Cecil and being a Cub Scout leader for all her sons. She also worked with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years.
She was a charter member of Ben Hera Court #91, and was High Priestess of the Ladies Oriental Shrine NA in 1977-1978. She loved her Sunday School Wesley class, UMW, Homebodies, and all activities of Crestview United Methodist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Hal, who had Muscular Dystrophy. She is survived by her eldest son, Cecil Wayne Smith, and his wife, Della; grandson, Stephen Gordon and great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Adam Gordon; grandson, Richard Wayne Smith, and his wife Theresa, and great-grandchildren, Amanda and Elizabeth Smith.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Masonic Section of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s honor to the Shriner Hospital and Burn Center or to Crestview United Methodist Church.
