Manuel R Trevino (Manny), 77, was born on November 12, 1946, in Austin Texas to Joe and Felecita Trevino. He spent his early years in Austin, Texas before moving to Chicago, IL with his family. As a child in Chicago, he had several jobs, one of which was a paper route. His other job was as a shoe shiner. He even built his own shoeshine stand. One of his favorite memories as a shoe shiner was when he received a $20 tip from a “Gangster”. As a teen, he moved back to Austin to live with his grandmother, Clarita Ruiz, where he attended junior high and high school. Upon completing his education, Manny enlisted in the United States Navy. After finishing boot camp, he was sent to Vietnam, then was stationed at Barber’s Point on Oahu, Hawaii. Manny served 3 years with the Navy in the Fleet Tactical Support Squadron 21 and was Honorably discharged in November 1970, and was awarded The National Defense Service Medal. While he was stationed in Hawaii, Manny met and married Mary-Alice (Sintos) Trevino and together they had 4 children. After leaving the Navy, Manny moved his young family to TX, CO, back to HI and eventually settling in Loveland, CO. Throughout the many moves and years, Manny continued to further his education. He received his Electronic Assembly & Soldering Surface Mount Technology Certificate and Electronics Technician Certificate respectfully. Manny moved one last time, back to Austin Texas where he got a job with Applied Research Laboratories at The University of Texas at Austin. He worked with them until his retirement. As a true Texan, Manny loved BBQ and football, but not just any football. Manny was a true blue die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys – America’s Team. In the words of Jimmy Johnson “How bout them Cowboys”. On any given Sunday, you would find him out in his backyard grilling, with a drink in his hand and a game on the TV. When it wasn’t football season, some of his favorite pastimes and hobbies included tinkering in his garage or shed, fishing, and DIY-ing, watching
sci-fi and horror movies. If you spent any time with Manny, you knew he was also a great storyteller.
