Linda Kay Brown Turk was born July 23, 1955 in Ganado Texas to the late Nettie Mae Callis and the late Cleophus Brown, Sr. Linda and her family later relocated to Bay City, Texas. Linda attended Bay City public schools, where she excelled in academics. Linda also developed a lifetime love of basketball and managed the high school Women’s Basketball team during her senior year of high school. She also received Christ at an early age and attended services at Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City.
After graduating from Bay City High School in 1973, Linda attended the University of Houston on an academic scholarship. She eventually married and spent several years working and raising her daughter before moving to the greater Austin area.
In 1983, Linda became employed with the Railroad Commission of Texas. During her 31 years of service to the state, she made several dear friends whom she loved like family. Her honesty, sharp wit, and sense of humor made her instantly likeable.
During her retirement, Linda took advantage of the extra time she was given to pursue her interests. Linda made it a priority to stay connected with her loved ones. She was also very passionate about politics and the NBA. Linda was also an excellent cook and enjoyed spoiling friends and family with her creations.
After a life well-lived, Linda transitioned to Heaven during the afternoon of Friday, February 1st, 2019. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and brother, Timmie Brown of Bay City (LaVernn).
Linda leaves a lifetime of memories to be cherished by her daughter, Taanya Turk of Austin; brothers: Cleophus Brown, Jr. (or “Cookie”) of Lake Jackson (Ethel), Alvin Brown of Houston, and Gerald Brown of Bay City (Sharmane); sisters: Paula Brown of Bay City and Adrienne Montgomery of Austin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
