Kaye was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was generous and loving and could always make people laugh. Kaye grew up in Kansas and followed her mother and some of her sisters to become a Texas Transplant. She was a retired librarian and worked in Rio Grande Valley for some years and lived in Brownsville after retirement. In 2012, she moved from the Valley to live with, Nellie Kaye (KC) Carpenter and Tish Marie Minium, two of her daughters. She lived with them for a year, and then moved to Temple a few months before moving in with her daughter Opal Renee Minium, where she lived until her death.
Some remembrances of Kaye include:
She was a world class faller. She always was able to look at it in good humor; some spectacular incidents include a time where she fell out of the women's room and into the men's room. She also once ran in the airport to give Tish something she forgot. She tripped and slid like she was stealing home plate. They held the plane so Tish didn't miss it.
When she was in college she went home to visit her family and played hopscotch with her little sisters and broke her arm.
She and her sister Jo would go dancing in Mexico together. Like teenagers, they didn't tell their mother, because she worried so much about them being in Mexico. Kaye loved to dance!
During the two years she lived with Renee she continuously lobbied for adding a pool. Renee was very much against the idea, but that didn't keep her from dreaming. Over Labor Day weekend Renee went out of town for some and R&R and her daughters, Tish and KC bought an above ground pool and set it up for her. Their plan had a lot of problems, especially how their disabled mom would get into the pool. Once Renee got home they had to empty it and take it down!
Kaye was blessed with a chosen sister, Kathy Annette Doolin. Her daughters did not provide her with grandchildren so all were blessed to have Kathy's Daughter, Bethany Joy Doolin, as a grand daughter.
Kaye is survived by her daughters Opal Renee Minium, Tish Marie Minium and Nellie Kaye (KC) Carpenter and Max, her poodle. Also, her mother, Mary Floyd, husband Leonard; her sisters, Olive Garrison, husband Nick; Rose Charvat, husband LeeRoy, their children, Nicole Bachman, husband Byron and children, and Jacob Charvat, wife Amy and children; Jo Sanders and daughter Chrissy Nickels; Belva Sanders-Pittman, husband John, and son Josh Sanders, wife Jamie and child; and chosen sister, Kathryn Annette Doolin and chosen granddaughter, Bethany Joy Doolin.
