J.B. served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he began working in the oil fields of West Texas during the oil boom of the 1950’s. After winning the Abilene Men’s Amateur Golf Championship in the early 1960’s, he became a golf pro. He served as the club pro for many years in Sweetwater, Big Spring, Jal, New Mexico, and Kerrville. J.B. loved golf and baseball, especially the Texas Rangers, Round Rock Express, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jean Wetsel, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Travis and husband Vic of Grand Prairie, son, Jim Wetsel of Atlanta, GA, and daughter, Lynn Caruthers of Round Rock; many grandchildren; and his two great-granddaughters, Savannah and Katy.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
