Hilda G Duncan

Hilda’s life began on July 17, 1933, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, as a cherished daughter of Arturo and Dolores Guajardo. She was driven by a profound passion for science and education which led her to Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, where she diligently pursued her dreams. In 1954, she proudly graduated with a degree in Medical Technology. During her time at college, fate intervened, and on a blind date, she crossed paths with the man who would share her life’s journey, Lloyd Duncan. Their union in 1954 blessed them with five children and spanned 64 years before Lloyd's passing.

As the wife of a dedicated Air Force officer, Hilda gracefully embraced the challenges of an itinerant life. Her Medical Technology degree allowed her to provide her expertise wherever duty called. She lent her skills to various healthcare institutions, including Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska, Brackenridge Hospital, State Mental Hospital, and TRC as a Disability Examiner in Austin, Texas.

Hilda's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in her faith, making her a valuable member of both St. Louis Catholic Church and St. Theresa's Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and dedicated herself to teaching CCD.

Hilda's zest for learning extended far beyond the classroom. She and Lloyd shared a love for square dancing, investment clubs, bridge, volksmarches with the Colorado River Walkers, and exploring the world through travel. In her personal time, she delighted in crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and assisting ESL students with their coursework. Hilda's commitment to community was evident through her active participation in The University of Texas Women's Association, Pan-American Round Table of Austin, Mesa Oaks Garden Club, the Retired Officer's Wives Club, and the Armed Forces Wives Club.

Family was precious to her. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sandra Parker (Jeff); James Duncan (Annabell); Suzie Rieman (Randy); Judy Robbins (Jason); grandchildren, Jessica Klink (Chris); Andria Parker, Stephen Parker (Amy), and Alec Parker; Sara Fredericks (Chris), Ashley Skweres (Justin), and Ross Duncan; Stephen Rieman; Emily Zlatos (Eric), Turner Robbins (Sophia), and Lloyd Robbins (Catherine); great-grandchildren: Kiera and Brenton Klink, Tegan, Tyler, and Jaxon Parker; Harper and Duncan Fredericks; Jonah, Griffin, and Everett Skweres; Stephen, Samantha, Jason, and Isaiah Zlatos; sister Imelda Vidaurri de Guajardo; and brother Arturo Guajardo Jr. (Alicia), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Dolores Czimny; her parents Arturo and Dolores Guajardo, and brother-in-law Luis Angel Vidaurri.

Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts as we celebrate her remarkable journey. Visitation will be September 25, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be September 26, 2023 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Austin, Texas at 10:00 a.m., with a committal service at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
