Eleanor Steward completed her life with us on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. She had been looking forward to this Journey for quite some time and is now with those who pre-deceased her; husband, John P Steward and her daughter, Carol A Steward; also, her parents Alvin and Louise (Wobus) Schulze.
Eleanor was born on December 20, 1933 in La Grange, Texas. The family consisted of her parents Alvin and Louise (Wobus) Schulze, and her sister, Bernice Mitchell. The family moved from Giddings, TX to Austin, TX when she was young and they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Eleanor went to grade school at St. Paul and graduated from Austin High School a year early. She met John P Steward, who was a member of the USAF, stationed at Bergstrom AFB, they were married May 4, 1951 and lived in Austin, TX.
Eleanor had 3 children, Schere Jo, Carol Ann (Carol Ann passed away shortly after birth) and John Michael. Family was very important to her and doing things together was the glue that helped accomplish this task. The family became members of the Travis County Sheriff Posse which held monthly rodeo and horsemanship activities, the family farm kept everybody busy feeding, cleaning and working in the garden, the Lake House was a gathering place to fish during the summer and the Ranch has given the family many more hunting memories. Eleanor was always looking for ways to educate her children, grand-children and great-grand-children about nature and God, that both relationships need to be nurtured throughout our lifetime. Some of Eleanor’s favorite hobbies were quilting, gardening, and traveling around the world with family and friends.
She had a long career with Farmers Insurance Group of Companies and was one of the first female managers for Farmers in Texas. Among her many job titles, the most memorable was being manager of Monthly Pay, which she helped create in Texas, to allow policyholders the ability to pay insurance premiums monthly.
Eleanor was very active in the St. Paul Church choir, LWML (Lutheran Woman Missionary League), the RUTH Circle and many more organizations. She was also instrumental in the outreach programs for the Lutheran Grade and High School Education programs through St. Paul and Concordia Lutheran College.
She is survived by her sister Bernice Mitchell; children Schere J Allen and John M Steward, Son-In-Law William H Allen and Daughter-In-Law Pam J Steward; Grandchildren – Ross P Allen, Brandon M Steward, Britnee K Gifford and Justin S Allen; and Great Grandchildren – Gavin Allen, Addison Allen, Keaton Allen and Trulee Gifford; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
