With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy Nell on Friday, October 20, 2023. She was born to Louis Blakemore and Lena Mae McKenzie at Brackenridge Hospital on May 26, 1943. Dorothy Nell's life was one of purpose and accomplishment.
Dorothy Nell was a proud graduate of Anderson High School and furthered her education by earning a business certificate from Austin Community College. In 1964, she entered into a loving marriage with Roy Wilson, Sr., and they shared many years of happiness and companionship.
Dorothy Nell dedicated herself to public administration and customer service throughout her career. She served with distinction in roles at the Secretary of State's office and the Army and Airforce Exchange Services. Her commitment to excellence in her professional endeavors left a lasting impact on those she worked with.
Dorothy Nell was a devoted member of Peaceful St. James Baptist Church, where her faith was integral to her life. She possessed a zest for life that was reflected in her passions for traveling, dancing, music, and the joy she found in playing bingo.
Dorothy Nell is survived by her loving husband, Roy Wilson, SR., her cherished children, Lawrence A., Kenneth R., Virgil L., and Roy Jr. II, all whom bear the family name Wilson, step-daughter, Terry Young and niece, Lynn Manyweather who she cared for like a daughter when her mother passed. Her memory lives on through her adoring grandchildren, Lawrence Jr., Christopher, Andrea, Stephanie, Christina, Kenneth Jr., Katija, Yolanda, Roy Jr. III, and Jalissa, all of whom bear the family name Wilson, along with a host of great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is also remembered by her dear sisters, Delores (Honey) Nash, Eva (Sugar), husband Robert Latimore, Leora (Sister), and husband Ollie Robinson. Dorothy Nell is preceded in death by her father, Louis Blakemore, her mother Lena Mae McKenzie, her stepmother, Sammie Lee Blakemore, and her brothers and sisters: LC Jackson, Lloyd Jackson (Dooney), Cornelius Jackson (Tootsie), William Jackson (Bonnie), Louis Blakemore, Jr. (Pudding), Mary Joe Blakemore, Mattie Lee Jackson, and Emma Dunston. Her cousins/brothers and sisters, Arthur L., Richard C., Aaron, and Gary, all of whom bear the family name Black, Hattie E. Williams, and Evelyn M. Eason (Gladys).
Preceded in death is her mother Lena Mae McKenzie.
We come together to honor and remember a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness, grace, and unwavering love. Dorothy Nell's legacy will forever be etched in our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in eternal peace in the presence of the Lord.
A visitation will occur Monday, October 30, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Funeral service for Dorothy will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas. Reception will follow from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
