Born July 6, 1949, in Burnet, Texas to Cecil and Rufus Crawford, Diane was a “Daddy’s girl” at heart and grew up frolicking in the country at their farm, sometimes napping with her beloved pigs or playing with her cousins at her grandmother’s house in downtown Liberty Hill. Her family moved to Austin where she attended Lamar Junior High and graduated from McCallum High School before meeting and marrying her husband Virgil in 1970. She worked at the City of Austin Health Department until they welcomed their first of two children. Diane embraced being a homemaker and selflessly put her family’s needs before her own. She cared for both of her parents until their deaths and after losing her husband of 45 years focused her devotion even more to her four grandchildren.
At a young age Diane naturally developed a love of the beautiful Texas Hill Country wildflowers which she would cherish and admire throughout her life. She loved gardening in her flower beds and took great pride tending to them.
She quickly made friends at the senior community in which she lived the last years of her life, taking them for drives and showing them short cuts around town, sharing stories, and participating in social events like karaoke. As one friend described her, “She was a child of God that shared her faith freely”.
Diane is survived by her two children, Shannon Moore Nelson and husband Ian, son Chad Wesley Moore and wife Liz, four proud grandchildren Justin, Kamryn, Lauren, and Jayton, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
