After discharge from the Air Force, he went into electric trade working for his brother-in-law at Maxwell Electric, eventually to become an electric inspector for the City of Austin. After a few years, he started his own company, Hammett Electric, and operated it for 50 years.
Bennie raised quarter horses with his family and was a member of the AQHA and NCHA. He was involved in calf roping and team roping. He really enjoyed showing horses in the quarter horse shows, winning many trophies in the ring for showing western pleasure, halter, & cutting. Family was always a very big part of Bennie’s life.
